"At this point, everything is still in the experimental stage. We don't have definitive data on the safety of this vaccine mix in general and the vaccine type specifically," said a lecturer at Harvard Medical School, while welcoming this trial phase amid the emergence of various new virus variants with faster transmission.
So far, there have been only a few preliminary studies on vaccine mixing that have been conducted on a limited basis.
A preliminary study in Spain showed the combination of AstraZeneca and Pfizer to be very safe and effective. The lecturer in genetics and child health said that Britain and Germany also conducted similar studies.
Regarding the need to mix vaccines due to the proliferation of the Delta variant, which spreads more quickly, the doctor who also teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology chooses to be careful.
"I'm not going to say it's necessary. Because we as doctors need to be careful (in conducting trials) and everything must have evidence. There are no rules from countries that the third injection can be for everyone. Yes, it could be now for medical workers.
